Hello there! My name is Courtney. I am 25 years old and I have type 2 diabetes. I have lived most of my life with diabetes looming over me. My dad was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes when he was 18 and his mother was diagnosed with it when she was about 30. My maternal grandmother was also diagnosed not too long ago as well. One of my cousins has type 1. Diabetes is really close to home for me. I was diagnosed with type 2 in 2017.
I saw what diabetes can do to you when you don’t have control over it. I don’t have control over mine. I also know that I’m not the only one out there who is going through this. If I could help others, either those who have diabetes or those who have loved ones with diabetes, go through this journey then I will have accomplished my mission.
When I was growing up, I never knew anything about diabetes, yet there is a growing number of young people who are being diagnosed with diabetes. How can we grow up with all the temptation of sugar and not know the full consequences of a sugar-rich lifestyle? Why are we not told or educated about this?
I never knew about diabetes and the extent of the disease until I was diagnosed and went to a diabetes management class. Why did I have to wait until I was diagnosed with diabetes before learning more about it? With this blog, I hope to educate people about diabetes in a way we can all understand it, how to cope with it, how to support our loved ones who have it, and possibly even help prevent someone pre-diabetic from the full diagnosis.
Besides helping others with diabetes, I would also like to share my journey with my readers. I have gone from 250 lbs at the time of my diagnosis in 2016 to a current 185 lbs. I’m not sure how I managed that in close to four years, but I would like to share my journey in hopes of inspiring others to do the same. Perhaps it will help me stay accountable, maybe it will inspire me to keep going even when I don’t want to.
In this blog, I will share posts about:
– Diabetes education
– Diabetic recipes
– My weight loss and diabetic journey
– Some of my personal opinions and advice regarding diabetes
– Tips and Tricks to diabetes
– and many more.
With this blog, I plan to reach out to as many people as possible who have diabetes (type 2 in particular), are pre-diabetic, or those whose loved ones have diabetes and help educate them and help them through their diabetic journey.
