I graduated from Kamehameha High School Keaau in 2012. I went on to college and I graduated from the University of Hawaii Hilo with my Bachelor’s in History – Hawaiian & European in 2017. I worked as a teller at a local credit union and now I work as a tour guide with a local tour company in Hilo. I’ve tried my hand at online businesses, first with a custom yarn lei business, then Color Street and Paparazzi Accessories. I like the idea of going into business for myself. However, I have always wanted to help people, especially in Hawaii where so many people need help.

In 2014, we lost my dad. He was diagnosed with a whole slew of ailments, the biggest and least understood by myself and my family was diabetes. He was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes when he was 18 years old. My sisters and I never really knew what diabetes was and what it could do to you. I sometimes wonder if I knew then what I know now, could he still be alive today. I have many regrets about my dad, like never telling him how much I loved him. I don’t want people to go through the same clueless journey that I went through as their loved one deteriorates in front of their eyes.

Also, in 2017, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I am going through the same journey that my dad went through and after seeing what it did to him, I don’t want that to happen to me. If I can help educate people about type 2 diabetes and how to support their loved ones with diabetes, then I will have succeeded in my mission.
